FAQs

A: On the side of your tyre there ill be many numbers, often grouped together. The ones that tell you your tyre size in most cases will follow this format: xxx/xxRxx. This is further explained in the next question.

A: All these numbers combine together to give you the width, profile, rim size, load and speed rating.
235= Over all tyre width in millimetres
45= The aspect ratio or profile of your tyre. This determines the sidewall height of your tyre as a percentage of the tyre width. In this case, the height of the sidewall is 45% of 235mm
R= Radial construction
17= Rim diameter in inches
94= Load rating index. How much load each tyre can carry. A tyre with a 94 load rating can carry 670kg
W= Speed symbol category. A W rated tyre has been tested as being safe and strong enough to maintain 270 km/h

A: The minimum tread depth is 1.5 mm. This means that it is imperative to change your tyres once this limit has been reached to avoid compromising your safety and breaking the law.
But it also means that it is premature to change your tyres before this threshold.

A: A steering wheel that is shaking at a constant road speed indicates that your wheels need balancing. Wheels are balanced when they are first fitted to a car, but balance changes over time due to many factors.

A: An excessive pull or a crooked steering wheel, are indicators of a vehicle requiring a wheel alignment. This is something all vehicles will require every 10,000-15,000 kilometres for even tyre wear, precise steering and predictable handling.

A: Tyreright works in partnership with Tyrecycle. By purchasing new tyres from a Tyreright store and leaving us your old ones, you can be assured that your old tyres won’t end up in a landfill.

Tyrecycle is Australia’s largest tyre recycler with a country-wide network of collection capabilities and processing plants in every mainland state. Their rubber crumbing plant in Melbourne is Australia’s largest, with three times the capacity for rubber crumb production than their nearest rival.

The crumbed rubber they produce has a hundred and one uses. It is perfect for industrial, recreation, and decorative applications such as artificial turf, running, cycling and railway tracks, playground surfaces, roads and much more.

Tyrecycle isn’t the only tyre recycling program in Australia, with several other companies participating in tyre recycling initiatives, including The Australian Tyre Recyclers Association (ATRA) and Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA).

A: In most cases, yes you can. A properly inspected and repaired tyre should go on for the rest of its life with no issues at all. There are of course many criterior that the tyre must satisfy before it is able to be repaired, for example repairs are not allowed in the sidewall of a tyre.
